  1. pow = 12
i really like the range of depth of grays on the building that build off of each other to show so much detail
looks very old and strong, except for the car in the shot

  2. I like photo number 12 a lot because of the composition and the depth of the shot. The lighting in your self portrait (number 1) looks great with your hair and your face! I think your POW is photo number 3 because of the way the glass reflects onto the surface of the countertop, it has great contrast.

  3. Hi Jasmine. I love love love photo 11. There is an overall darkness and slight coloration to this photo that creates a real organic feeling. The tones on the hand and the darkness surrounding it really add to a sense of mystery. The sharpness of this photo, and the way that every wrinkle of skin is highlighted really drew me into the photo. While I also liked photo 7 for its framing and play with shadow, I think photo 11 would be my choice for your POW.

  4. Hey Jasmine! I love 2, 4, & 12. The shadows created in 2 were beautiful, catching the darkness in a way that makes you understand the depth of the shadow. The contrast of that photograph is very unique, sectioning the picture into three. I definitely think that your POW is 2. Also, 4 captures you in such a natural way and makes you look mysterious, like you have something you need to say. The black and white captures your words without you saying them. 12 creates very invigorating shadows and the contrast is amazing.

  5. I think your POW should be number 3 as well. I love the depth to the shot as well as the contrast between the blacks, whites, and grays. Number 7 is also very intriguing.

  6. Hey Jasmine! I really like your photos. I particularly like photo #10. I think this is your POW. I love the distinct shadow that goes right down the center of your face. It really makes me wonder if there is an underlying message in this photo. It is very interesting, because rather than looking at your face as a whole, the shadow forces me to look at the two different sides of your face. I think the shadow breaks up the image very well.

  7. I would have to say #12.

The Construction of the work: the shot uses visual and technical tools such as lines shadows and lighting, symmetry, and a lower point of view to make it more dynamic and mysterious.

The Communication of the work: The photo can be read pretty well. Aside from the car in the shot, the editing of the photo definitely hit the spot of looking vintage. The content resonates with my own interests by relating to a time period and group of photographers I enjoy, but I'll touch more on that soon.

The Conception of the work: Although I'm not seeing a pattern of motivation for the majority of these photos, I could see why this building would catch your eye.

I am a fan of a group of photographers called "The Photo League." They were around from the 30's to the 50's and have some extremely moving photos; also, some very motivational photos as well. This photo immediately reminded me of Jack Manning's "Elks Parade" photo from 1939.

I suggest you take a look. Here's a link to some info about them, and the photo by manning is on the page as well.

    Great job

  8. POW 2::

I like how it took me a moment to figure out which was the object and which was the shadow. I like how the design of the subject created an identical shadow. Normally a shadow only shows the outline of something but the shadow you captured is very detailed and slightly enlarged. I love how it contrasts with the white snow that is behind it. This makes the subject of the photo stand out even more. #7 is also another favorite of mine. You almost looked trapped in a tunnel and it appears like you can't get out. This picture actually gives me a little anxiety and makes me wonder how you were able to take a picture like this.

    Great work!

  9. 13, 12, 7 and 2 stand out to me. 13 captures space very well and the slight angle of the shot creates motion. 12- beautiful architecture with an interesting filter/grain. I think 7 is my favorite. The composition and framing is really neat and I like how there is an overall cloudiness to it, it creates a bit of mystery- POW for me. Finally two great shot capturing shadow and light. Good work!

  10. Hi there! Good job with these photos! My favorites are 3, 7, and 11. I like three because you are using a worms eye perspective and you are strongly utilizing lighting, focus, and reflection. Number 7 is strong too because it evokes mystery and creativity. Number 11 is in my opinion your best, and my vote for POW because of the strong utilization of low lighting, macro focusing, shadows and texture of the hand. Very nice job thus far!

  11. Hi Jasmine! You have great pictures on here. I really like your first two photos.

I think your POW is #1. I love that the picture is slightly tilted. The old look of the interior of the building is really highlighted by the shadows cast from the lights and the windows. It gives it a lot of texture and I think the pictures is wonderful.

I also really like #2. The slight angle pointed up gives the building height and the added contrast gives the brick texture. It's a really beautiful and simple photo to show the old look of the building.
