  1. POW=1
awesome depth of foreground to background elements, there is a whole range of snow flakes at different places in the composition which makes it look like its raining snowballs

  2. I enjoy the different points of views seen through your pictures. Your use of angles are very creative

  3. I liked how you played with angle -especially in your car photographs. I also really liked how you kept an interesting foreground and also an interesting background, for example in your snowboarding picture. I always find it hard in my own work to try and find a background that I like as well as a foreground in the same place. My POW for you is also photo 1 because I liked how you managed to capture movement of the snowflakes so clearly.

  4. Janelle, I think 9 is a really pretty picture. Its framed well and I like the contrast between the bright white flower and the darker background. I also love the lighting in photo 10. My pow for you is photo 1. The photo has a real depth and mystery that I love!

  5. Hi Janelle. I really like photo 10 for its use of contrast between light and darkness. I like how you kept the foreground very dark and shadowed much of the detail there and the stark openness of the sky, with the one lone peak in the middle creates a feeling of loneliness. The contrast between the brightness of the skyline as it meets the horizon is also very good. For me, your POW is self-portrait 2. The emotion in your eyes tells a story, yet leaves enough mystery to wonder just what was happening in your thoughts. I loved how the top of the photo is blurring out, this too adds to the feeling that this photo is diving inside of your mind, and allows the light above you on the left side of the photo to play in a way that is refreshing.

  6. Hey Janelle! I really love the energy I feel throughout all of your photos. I really enjoy photo #8 "Morning Run" because I like the depth that in creates within the picture. I feel as though I myself am holding that flower and looking right at it. I also like how you captured your shadow in the corner. I think it makes the image very interesting. I think your POW is photo #1 "Snow Fall". I love the dramatic contrast between the white snow and the dark background. The photograph really draws me in and makes me feel as though I am actually standing in the middle of a snow storm.

  7. My POW for you would have to be photo #8. After first looking at this photo I did not recognize the shadow that is in the lower right of this photo. I love how the sun is shinning so bright that everything appears to be light, except for your silhouette. I like how the daisy/white flower appears to be blurry, but your shadow is very dark and sharp in contrast. Also, even though this is only one shot it looks like two completely different people holding the flower because of the angle you chose to shoot at. I find this very picture to be very powerful. Your hand is so much bigger than the flower, yet the tiny flower is still the focal point of the shot.

  8. I would have to say #5.

The Construction of the work: the shot uses visual and technical tools such as lines (especially the legs drawing the eyes to the bottom center), good highlights, and a birds eye point of view to make it more dynamic and mysterious.

The Communication of the work: The photo can be read pretty well. The content resonates with my own interests because I'm a huge snowboarder, so I feel a kind of attachment to the photo. Makes me wish I was there right now! Also, with your other photos, Im big into cars as well, so I feel I relate in that sense too (careful though, I feel the teacher may add taking car pics to the do not shoot - list..haha)

The Conception of the work: Although I'm not seeing a pattern of motivation for the majority of these photos, I could see why this shot would catch your eye. It certainly does mine. Its a great shot.

  9. Hi there, really great start with this B&W collection! My favorites are numbers 1, 2 and 5! I like four because it is striking with the high contrast of the nigh sky and the white snow reflecting off of the flash. It almost seems as though the flakes are stars in a night sky! I like Number 2 because it evokes a certain emotion and is well centered. My favorite one is number 5 however, because you utilize two types of perspectives. A lower eye perspective of the feet and then a birds eye perspective of the land. This juxtaposition is strong and I think you should use number 5 as your POW. Nice job so far, friend!

  10. You have a really diverse collection of photos and they were enjoyable to view. My favorites are photos 1 and 5. The secenery on photo 5 is beautiful and I like that the fact that you included your snowboard boots. Your POW is 1 because you captured such a unique photo of the snow falling, and it it contrasts so well with the dark background
