  1. Hi Maggie, I enjoyed looking through your photos! #1 is great because it shows you doing something and not just looking at the camera! I also like the angle! #2 is beautiful and I love the colors! As for your POW, I would choose #3 because of the mysteriousness of the photo. It looks like a photo from a different century and the shadows are nice too!

  2. Maggie, I really liked photos 9 and 12. The shadows really stand out in 9 and give the picture dimension. In 12, I like the white sweatshirt and how the darkness and shadows seem to surround it. I would use 9 as your POW.

  3. Hello, I think you have done really great work with shadows in your photographs. Photos 9, 11, and 12 have a nice use of shadow where the shadow is part of the photo, but not necessarily the focus. I think your POW is #9 because of the framing and the dimension of the shadows.

  4. Hey! I really like the variety of your photos. You really played with texture and lighting really well. I also really liked the placement of your photos and the way you cropped things to make them more mysterious. Also your use of shadows creates a lot of interest for the eye and I love how your shadows actually reach black but do not become too dark as a whole photo. My favorites are 8, 12 and 13. I have to say that number 12 is my POW for you because I love the emotion you created in the piece. I feel like there is a lot of mystery behind the scene and the subject could be in fear or just simply waiting on the stoop. I feel like number 12 could really tell a story.

  5. Your POW is #6. Out of all your photos there is a great sense of mystery here. I would have maybe tried focusing on the couple more and making the Eiffel not stand out as much so they could be the focus of the picture. I really enjoy the angle and closeness of the objects in this picture. Typically, one does not get to see these sort of things from that viewpoint/angle and I think you got that spot on.

#8 is also another favorite of mine, I love the composition of this. The shape of the lamp creates a certain light and shadow. I actually think the shadows and highlights are actually the feature of your shot, and not the lamp... what a mystery!

  6. Hi Maggie. You are one of the better photographers in this class. That is not to say that everyone doesn't have an artistic eye, but your photos consistently show both a very good artist's perspective as well as truly satisfying the requirements of this week's assignment. I love photo 5. The framing is perfect and the play of shadow within the leaves against the white backdrop of snow really pulls out an almost surreal quality in the photo. Photo 7, 8, and 9 all catch something really special as well. 7 does a great job of playing the bright light against the front of the trees against the obscured shadow of the trees behind. Photo 8 shows a strong understanding of the contrasts between shadow and light and creates a lonely feeling. I like the placement and angle of photo 9 as the flowers are casting their shadow against the wall behind, creating real depth. For me, your POW is photo 10. The way the shadows work off of the snow and create varying shades of tonality really makes this picture stand out. There is a softness off the snow contrasting with the hardness of the wood that is captured with the framing and it is a great example of understanding shadow.

  7. Hey Maggie, 6 and 8 were definitely my favorites in your collection. There's so many subjects in 6 but despite the differences, all the elements come together to create a photograph in harmony. It looks like a set up scene and the brown tints add a but extra strength to the image. Also, my POW is 8 in your collection. I love how you captured the light off center. The angle makes it very appealing and the shadows are effective because of the dark and light concept. The shadow is amazing in this picture, allowing there to be a clear distinction between light and darkness.

  8. Maggie, I love your collection. I think your Pow is 6. The subject plus the toning gives it a romantic feel that I like a lot. I also love 5. You took a simple subject with the leaf in the snow and made it really unique.

  9. I would have to say #3.

The Construction of the work: the shot uses visual and technical tools such great lighting, good highlights and shadows, an awesome edit with the vintage look, and a bizarre point of view most people don't see at to make it more dynamic and mysterious.

The Communication of the work: The photo can be read extremely well. The content doesn't resonate with my own interests, but certainly catches my eye. Also, the rest of your photos are extremely interesting as well.

The Conception of the work: I am seeing a pattern of motivation for the majority of these photos, which is an eye for abstraction. Most of your photos are up close, and seemingly manipulative to the subject. It makes the mind have to think, which is always a great thing.

    Great job.

  10. Hi Maggie! 12, 11, and 1 are my favorites. I found your self portrait very in the moment and fun. 12 and 11 have great contrast in terms of dark and light. 12 especially with the use of light to capture the subject. The spotlight works great and I love that the shadow was captured behind her as well and made it in the shot. 11 has great framing and the shadows made from whatever was in from of you made for an interesting photo. POW 12
