Hello Michael, great pictures! #5 stands out to me because it is such a simple photograph with great shadowing in it! As for your POW, I would vote for #4 because there is great contrast of the child against the dark background which makes the child really pop out in the picture!
Hey Michael, I really enjoyed photo 12. A piano is already black and white but the lighting gives the photo a glowing effect. I love the piano and it makes the instrument look almost "heavenly". The angle of the picture is also nice. It isn't directly over the keys so it gives the picture depth. I think that photo 12 should be your POW.
Hello! I really liked the fact that you played a lot with your pictures and were not afraid to try taking lots of different shots. I liked your self portrait (photo 1) because it is different because you didnt try to crop the photo to show half of your face but used your own hand to create a block between the viewer and yourself. I really liked your use of repetition in photo number 6 because I think you need a unique eye to notice when something in repetition can create a really interesting and mysterious effect. My POW for you is number 5 because I enjoy the angle (something I wouldn't think of) and the placement of the smoke detector as a whole in the shot. I like the details of the cracks and also the shadow created by light on the ceiling.
Hi Michael, I do enjoy #2 your self portrait because of the texture and blurriness. It is mystifying. However, I think the subject (you) gets lost in the picture slightly because of the filter that was placed over the photograph. Your POW is #12. I love how you can see the detail of the piano and the shadow of the keys in the reflection. This picture shows a different side of the piano.
Hey Michael, my POW of your collection is 10. The coldness of the winter is captured with such simplicity. The black and white does a good job at capturing this coldness yet there also is a hint of darkness as well. The Also, 12 is another one of my favorites because even though the keys of a piano already resonate black and white, the addition of the black and white filter gives it a unique and even deeper value. The closeness of the picture gives a vacant feeling, like there is something missing from the picture and the viewer is left wondering what that may be.
Hey Michael! I really enjoy your collection of photos. For me, your POW is photo number 10. I like the mysterious aspect to this photograph. It made me really stop to look at it because I cant quite figure out what this surface is. But I really like the fade of the shadow from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. It directs my eye diagonally across the photograph.
Hey Micheal! I think your POW should definitely be number 12. Although the piano is already black and white, the lighting in the picture gives it a very cool and unique effect. The angle that you took the picture at also gives it a depth so I'm glad that you didn't take it head on.
Hey there Michael, very neat collection of black and whites! My favorites of yours are number 8, number 9 and number 10. I like number 8 because it is very abstract and yet I still see familiar objects (a square and a reflection of a fan). I also like that eight has a fairly low contrast. This is an important and underrated editing tool. Too many people vamp up the contrast and ruin a picture for its simplistic nature. I also like number 9 because is has great texture and lighting. I love that it is out of focus because a picture that is out of focus is a form of abstract art that I find to be very quirky. Number 9 also evokes a sort of anxiousness inside of me, which I find compelling. And for that, I vote number 9 as your POW. I also enjoy number 10 because you centered it well and the contrast between the snow and the black pile of sticks makes the mound look like a creature that is very creepy, yet a well polished picture. Well done!
The Construction of the work: the shot uses visual and technical tools such as great toning and filter work to make it more dynamic and mysterious. The look is extremely vintage and absolutely one point.
The Communication of the work: The photo can be read pretty well. The content resonates with my own interests because I'm a fan of pin hole and vintage photography, so I feel a kind of attachment to the photo. I definitely have to say this looks like a pinhole print, so kudos to you.
The Conception of the work: Although I'm not seeing a pattern of motivation for the majority of these photos, I enjoy the use of effects and filters you used for these images.
